The Mint Julep

About the Mint Julep

Just in time for the big race on Saturday, we give you the Mint Julep. This classic is registered as an IBA Classic Cocktail and is a staple drink of the Kentucky Derby. There are reports that this may be one of the oldest known cocktails in history, dating back to sailors enjoying it in the 1700s. However, the South made this refreshing cocktail popular and we can thank Senator Henry Clay for introducing the recipe to Washington DC and beyond.

Ingredients in the Mint Julep

  • 1.25 oz. Bulleit Bourbon 10 Year Old
  • 1.5 tsp sugar
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Water
(We recommend using Bulleit Bourbon 10 Year Old for its superior quality, however it is just our suggestion. as long as you use Bourbon, it’s a julep.)

How to Make the Mint Julep

Muddle Mint leaves, sugar, and splash of water in a rocks glass or julep cup. Add Bourbon, water, and fill glass with crushed ice and stir. Garnish with fresh Mint.
